De La Red black out not serious

Real Madrid midfielder Ruben de la Red is recovering well in hospital following his collapse during the Copa del Rey clash against Real Union last night.

The 23-year-old crumbled to the ground mysteriously just 13 minutes into the game in Irun and failed to respond to immediate attention from the Real Madrid medics.

He had to be cautiously stretchered off the pitch and into the ambulance but Marca has reported that the player was able to get up on his feet to walk into the Bidasoa Local Hospital.

The doctors at the medical centre ran preliminary electrocardiogram tests but did not find anything unusually serious with his heart. Madrid's chief medical team, Carlos Diez then confirmed that De La Red simply fainted due to overexertion during the game.

"He will spend the night in the hospital as a precautionary measure eventhough the test have shown that everything is normal and the player himself is well", Diez added.

"He has suffered what appears to be excessive physical exertion but Real Madrid will undertake further tests to find out what the exact cause is."

"He has spoken with his family and he will return to the Spanish capital on Friday", the doctor confirmed.

Robben, Cannavaro Furious With Slip Up

Real Madrid duo Arjen Robben and Fabio Cannavaro did not attempt to hide their displeasure with last night’s performance against Almería after they allowed the opposition to fight back and earn a 1-1 draw.

Los Merengues looked to have the contest well in their control after dominating the first half and taking a 1-0 lead through Raúl in the 39th minute.

But the second period was almost a different game altogether as Almería changed their game plan and pinned Madrid back in their own half for large periods. And the tiny Andalucians got their just reward when Pablo Piatti popped up with the leveller nine minutes from time.

It’s not the first time that the men in white have thrown away a lead and two of their key players were understandably upset with the way the game unfolded.

“I am going home feeling as if we lost two points,” defender Fabio Cannavaro told the club’s official website, before going on to add, “We had the game under control at all times, yet we almost lost the match.”

“We cannot slip up like this against Juventus on Wednesday. We have to win at all cost to make sure we qualify for the next round as group winners,” he added.

Dutch winger, Arjen Robben echoed the Italian’s analysis: “I am upset about the result. We had our chances but we could not finish them off. What a shame.

“Now we have two days to prepare for Juventus. We have to beat them any which way we can. We cannot afford to give them any options of leaving with points in hand,” he stressed.

We will learn from Turin

Real Madrid might have lost their second game of the season in mid-week to Juventus but manager Bernd Schuster says that they will learn from it and they are recovered.

Real suffered only their second defeat of the season against Juventus this week in what was well and truly a game of two halves.

The home side dominated for the first 45 but the Spaniards came into it after the break and looked like they could snatch something from the match. However, it was not to be and they eventually lost 2-1, meaning that Juventus go top of the group ahead of Real Madrid. Speaking about the match today, ahead of their clash with Athletic Bilbao at the weekend, manager Bernd Schuster says that they will have to learn from it.

"The game was on Tuesday and we had sufficient time to recover", he said. "We do not have any physical problems but we are going to try and learn from Turin so that the same thing does not happen again."

"Bilbao are a hard team with the same coach as last year. We know how they play and they will make life difficult for us as usual", said Schuster.

The manager confirmed that both Guti and Mahamadou Diarra have recovered from injury and said they are going to play. He also spoke about Sergio Ramos, who in a recent interview said he was unhappy with the way he is being played at Real Madrid, but the manager refused to comment too much on it and simply said: "I do not see him as tired".
